Now and then a rudraksha tree produces something out of the ordinary, two seeds grown together or a bead with a trunk-like ridge. These special rudraksha forms are named and valued separately from beads counted only by mukhi.
The Gauri Shankar is two beads naturally fused side by side and is associated with Shiva and Parvati together, which is why many couples keep one. Garbh Gauri looks similar, but one bead is clearly smaller, like a mother with a child. Trijuti is three beads joined, which is quite rare. The Ganesh rudraksha carries a raised protrusion along its body that resembles an elephant's trunk, and it is linked in belief with Lord Ganesha.
Because joined forms can be imitated by gluing two seeds, look for a natural, unbroken join and ask for a lab identification report before buying special rudraksha. Many families place them on a small silver stand or red cloth in the mandir rather than wearing them every day. Wipe them dry and avoid knocking the join.
