A full mala can look out of place in a boardroom or a college lecture, but a few beads at the wrist rarely do. Spiritual bracelets take the materials of the japa mala and turn them into something you can wear every day without thinking about it.

Elastic bracelets of rudraksha, tulsi, sandalwood, sphatik or karungali slip on and off easily. Others are strung on cord with a sliding knot so the fit can be adjusted, and some use silver or gold-plated caps and spacers for a dressier look. Some people also wear a short wrist mala of 27 beads that can double as a counter for quick japa during travel.

Measure your wrist and add a little room before choosing spiritual bracelets, as tight elastic wears out faster. Take them off before swimming or washing up, roll them on rather than stretching hard, and replace the elastic when it begins to sag so the beads stay together.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

Can a bracelet be used for japa?
A 27 bead wrist mala can be used for short counts of mantras, though most people chant with a full 108 bead mala at home.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure around your wrist bone with a tape or string and add about a centimetre for comfort. Adjustable cord styles are forgiving if you are unsure.
Should I remove my bracelet while bathing?
It is wise, as soap and water weaken elastic and can dull wooden or seed beads.
What happens when the elastic loosens?
Replace it before it snaps. Any bead shop or jeweller can re-string an elastic bracelet quickly.
