Two very old Indian ideas meet in this section of yantras and gemstones. A yantra is a geometric diagram, usually engraved on copper, brass or silver-coated plate, used as a focus for worship and meditation. Gemstones, on the other hand, come from Jyotish, where particular stones are linked to the nine grahas and worn on the body as a matter of personal belief.

Yantras such as the Shri Yantra, Kuber Yantra or Mahamrityunjaya Yantra are placed in the puja room, energised by a priest in some families, and worshipped with kumkum and flowers. They are flat, three-dimensional or printed, and the choice usually depends on where you want to keep one.

The gemstone side of the family has three parts. Loose stones are for those who want to have a ring or pendant made by their own jeweller. Ready pendants and rings come with the stone already set, often in silver or panchdhatu, so that the stone can touch the skin as traditional texts suggest.

Many devotees consult an astrologer before wearing yantras and gemstones, and we would encourage the same. We do not promise any result from wearing or keeping them; what they offer is a link to a practice followed for centuries.

For any natural stone, ask for its identification details and read them carefully before you buy.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

Do I need an astrologer's advice before wearing a gemstone?
In Jyotish tradition a stone is chosen after reading the birth chart, so most people consult an astrologer first. Wearing one is a matter of personal belief.
Where should a yantra be placed at home?
Many families keep it in the puja room facing east or north, on a clean cloth or stand. It is usually kept at or above eye level and not on the floor.
Which metal is a yantra usually made of?
Copper is the most common, followed by brass, silver-plated and sometimes gold-plated sheets. Crystal and printed versions are also used.
How can I tell a natural gemstone from an imitation?
Ask for the identification report from a recognised gem testing laboratory and check that its details match the stone. Visual inspection alone is not reliable.
How do I clean a copper yantra that has darkened?
A paste of lemon juice and salt, or tamarind, removes tarnish from plain copper. Rinse, dry well and avoid harsh scrubbing on fine engravings.
