Puja items have a way of spreading: a matchbox on the windowsill, incense in the kitchen drawer, cotton wicks in a steel tin that also holds rubber bands. Puja storage gathers them in one place so the morning prayer starts without a search.

Think in small compartments. Kumkum, haldi, chandan and akshat each need a lidded section so powders do not mix. Incense sticks and dhoop cones stay straight in a long box, and wicks and camphor need a closed tin since camphor evaporates when left open. Keep ghee and oil in a separate container, away from paper and cloth.

A drawer beneath the mandir, a multi-compartment box or a small wall cabinet all work, depending on your space. Keep puja storage dry, check it before festivals, and set aside old flowers and items for respectful disposal rather than mixing them in.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

How do I store camphor so it does not disappear?
Camphor evaporates in open air, so keep it in a tightly closed tin or glass jar. Some people add a few peppercorns or rice grains, as an old household habit.
Where should matches and lighters be kept?
Store them in a closed box within the puja area but out of reach of children, and away from ghee, oil and fabrics.
How do I keep kumkum and haldi from clumping?
Use small lidded containers, keep them away from steam and damp walls, and always use a dry spoon or fingers.
What should I do with old puja flowers and items?
Many families immerse old flowers in a garden bed or compost, or place them under a tree. Practices vary, so follow your family or community custom.
