Many of the oldest Ayurvedic recipes were never meant to be swallowed as loose powder. Vati and gutika preparations were rolled into pills, and guggulu recipes use the resin itself to hold several herbs together, so multi herb formulations in tablet form have deep roots.

The section now holds two kinds. Classical formulations, such as Chandraprabha Vati or Triphala Guggulu, carry names and ingredients drawn from Ayurvedic texts. Proprietary formulations are a manufacturer's own combination, often with a brand-style name, and for these the composition panel is the only guide to what is inside.

Either way, read the full composition per tablet along with the licence number, batch and expiry. A product with many herbs has more chances of including something that does not agree with you, so discuss suitability with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting, and mention any medicines you already take.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

What is guggulu?
Guggulu is a resin from the Commiphora wightii tree, used in many classical Ayurvedic tablet recipes, where it also helps bind the other ingredients.
How can I tell whether a formulation is classical?
Classical products use the name found in Ayurvedic texts, and the label usually reflects that. Proprietary ones list the maker's own formula instead.
Why do some tablets smell strongly?
Resins, spices and certain herbs carry a powerful aroma of their own; coated tablets tend to smell less.
Can I break a tablet in half?
Go by the pack directions and your practitioner's advice, because some tablets are coated and are not meant to be split.
